Steve Carlson, the former president of Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC),
now owns and operates SGC HC Consulting of Missoula, Montana. The firm
advises health care clients such as independent hospitals on a variety
of issues included M&A activity. Prior to establishing SGC HC
Consulting, Steve Carlson served as CEO of Community Medical Center, a
150-bed facility that provides services including high risk obstetrics,
pediatrics and oncological care. His time at Community was preceded by
his tenure as President of FMC, a 265-bed facility in Flagstaff,
Arizona.
In preparation for his career in health care
leadership, Mr. Carlson attended the University of Minnesota, from which
he earned his MHA. While a graduate student, he was elected class
president. Before studying at the University of Minnesota, he completed
his BS from Saint John’s University, where he completed an Independent
Study in chemistry and business.
An outdoorsman, Mr. Carlson
stays active by participating in sports like fly fishing, jogging and
golf. His volunteer activity includes advising the Poverello Center of
Missoula, a community based homeless shelter, on the development of job
placement services for homeless residents.
